An impacted tooth is one that has not fully erupted into the mouth within the normal time period that it would normally do so.
Wisdom teeth, also known as the third molars, are the most commonly impacted teeth.
Other teeth which are impacted are often managed either with
1) extraction or
2) a combination of surgery and orthodontics to bring the tooth into its proper position. The tooth is surgically exposed and an orthodontic bracket is bonded to it so that it can be guided into its appropriate place by the patient's orthodontist.
